The Steps to becoming a VA are fairly straight forward:

Before you begin the steps below, I would like to advise you to apply for an EIN (Employer Identification Number) with the IRS and treat this as a business.  By doing so, you prevent the need to hand out your social security number to countless clients.  Just fill out a W9 and use your EIN for all new clients, this helps to protect you from identity theft.  You can get your EIN here, at no charge, just be sure to apply as a sole propritor unless you have gone all out and incorporated your business.
